Interview with Jared Kim, CEO of WeGame

Jared’s drive and passion got him going at an early age. He grew up in the United States, but went to high school in China to learn Mandarin. While in China, Jared’s passion for video games and entrepreneurship met as he started his first company at the age of 16. The company quickly grew to 70 employees. After Jared graduated from high school, he decided it was time to move back to the US and get the college experience. He sold the company assets, and enrolled in University of California at Berkeley.

Imagine going from running a 70 employee company one day, and then studying for the SATs and writing college admission essays the next. Pretty crazy right?

Jared’s passion for entrepreneurship and video games continued while at Berkeley; however, he found that his passion for the start up world was more in sync with his personal mission than classes. After Jared’s next start up quickly failed (better sooner than later Jared mentions), he took a leave of absence from Berkeley, and founded WeGame.com, the YouTube for video gamers. It has been widely successful and well received in the video game industry.

Who said you couldn’t turn your passions into a successful business, regardless of what it is? Many of us would love to create a successful company based around our interests and passions. Watch the interview to learn more about how Jared made it happen.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention that Jared was a golf prodigy growing up. He played golf with Tiger Woods when he was 13, and at one point was the #1 Teenage Golfer in all of Asia. Take note to what he says about deciding not to continue the path to become a professional golfer.
